CITY SUPPORT AS PRE-CONDITION TO SUCCESSFUL PALILULA DEVELOPMENT

Plans and initiations of Palilula Municipality, that need city support, realizations of investments and realization of mutual projects, as well as help in problems solving of this organization of local self government of the City of Nis, were the themes of working visit of PhD Mile Ilic, president of City Assembly to Palilula Municipality. President Ilic first of all had the meeting with new authorities of Palilula headed by president Dzunic in the Municipal building and then visited together with his hosts Memorial park Bubanj and object of Local community Kula - Tower. `We spoke about developmental projects of the City that are related to Palilula. The purpose of these meeting, beside the experience exchange about the issues of common interest for the City and the citizens is also to help together that certain things can have faster development. We stated together that first of all there is a great initiative of Palilula authorities and that they really need great support of the City in many projects`.

Two are major issues are that neither Palilula not the City can solve on their own - the dislocation of the railway and solving the slide land of Mramor Hill. In those two matters we should search for the help of the state. The discussions are current and I expect the first results during the next year, said Mile Ilic, president of City Assembly and added: Up to now many problems and issues have been successfully solved by this Municipality. Many things have been done for the adaptation of Bubanj Memorial Park, adaptation of interlock space, adaptation of Novo Selo, Old Cemetery and renovation of Palilula Market, but certain things also remained not finished. We have agreed that through the Programme of the City Construction some of these issues should be defined and that from the next year some investments should be completed and some started. Many are issues there about which we discussed and reached the complete consent about the way those issues should be solved. Tomorrow I will be having meeting with the Mayor and Director of the Directorate for the City Construction and I will discuss those issues with them. Now, when many programme development – financial documents of the City for the next year are being defined, many of these matters that relate to Municipalities and are of City character will be taken into account`.

The fact is that Municipality very much need the City support emphasized the Boban Dzunic, president of Palilula. He believes that common work with city authorities will success to realize all drafted plans. `We had many plans and very much appreciate the support of Ilic, since we got the confirmation that the City will give us full support in the coming period. From the City we will also need further help for transformation of the old Cemetery into Memorial Park and security and maintenance of Bubanj. We hope that the things, that have been done so far, will be maintained by physical and technical security. Together with Public Enterprise `Gorica` we will start new project of permanent maintenance of Bubanj park and Old Cemetery. We as a Municipality do not have possibility to finance those problems, but together with the city help we will preserve the memorial place-Park Bubanj, that is one of famous tourist destinations of the City of Nis and great potential of sport recreational and tourist offer. For the fact that the next year the celebration of Milan Edict anniversary takes place, I expect that Bubanj will be also important tourist spot. Beside that, I believe that the Amphitheater that is renewed will be the place where many manifestations within the celebration of this jubilee will also take place-said Boban Dzunic president of Palilula Municipality.

President Ilic together with the hosts from Palilula, presidents of Palilula Municipality and Palilula Assembly, head of administration, members of Municipal Council and project team visited Bubanj park where he was on the very place convinced of successful completion of project reconstruction and adaptation of the part of area. Beside reconstruction of the seats in the Amphitheater that were covered with wood, the benches were placed, 15 rest places, `senik` in the area of the park and paths that are within the park surfaces were all completed. Already present fountain in the middle eastern round plateau from the Amphitheater was reconstructed. Reconstruction was provided thanks to the project of cross border cooperation of Bulgaria – Serbia and financial resources of EU-IPA Fund `Could Tour`- Cooperation for sustainable development of cultural tourism in Municipalities Bobov Dol and Palilula and about 200,000 E were invested.

During the visit to Palilula, Mile Ilic, president of City Assembly, together with municipal authorities visited Kula-Tower, former Local Community building of this area and suggested that as soon as possible the status of this building should be solved. Kula stands for one of the symbols of Palilula and certainly is a mark of Nis. Unfortunately, it is in very bad state and is ruined and the security of the people living here is very much problematic. Next step is to determine which is the best solution whether to demolish it or renovate it. Professionals from the Municipality and institutions should give their opinions and ideas. We are expecting this decision up to the end of this year said Duznic, and then we will decide about priorities and further steps. The wish of the young people from Palilula is that this object which is the symbol of youth activism should be renewed it was heard on this occasion and should be used for sport recreation activities and other issues for the young of Palilula.
